So, The president of Nintendo USA, Reggie, is now on record as saying that Nintendo USA is not publishing Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. Even though Tecmo is on record as saying to direct questions concerning the game to Nintendo....so who should be contacted now?
(Even though Nintendo Japan DID publish the game over there...there were press release photos and everything.)
So, if Nintendo is not publishing the game, who is? Or is this game going to stay a Japanese release even though Tecmo's stock reports indicated otherwise? I can think of a few reasons why the game could be delayed for a release date, but it would be nice to at least know that the game _IS_ being planned on being released too. Even if it's just 'Sometime in 2009' date. :/
(plus, I'm a little tired of answering fanmail from all over the place asking about a US or European release date).
We really do LOVE this series Tecmo. Please release it to the states and Europe!

I think Tecmo US could pick it up depending on how the contract between them and Nintendo is drawn up. Once again you would need to contact NOA and find out if it is possible for another publisher to pick it up. It would suck if it's not Tecmo US to do it but at this point it could be any publisher.
Lord Dorkus > I have already been in contact with NOA at length through PR contacts. They have already told me to direct questions to Tecmo USA as they are not responsible for development or publishing the game.
Again, the game was published by Nintendo Japan. So I can understand if regions are in question here. However, each company has been pointing at each other as the company to contact. Play Magazine just did an article on both companies avoiding the questions concerning this game too. (So I know I'm not the only one getting this treatment).
It's understandable if the delay is due to the Bugs that are in the Japanese version, or it's due to Kikuchi-san working on Quantum Theory and Rygar. It's even understandable if Tecmo's recent merger negotiations are also in play.
It's just...awkward that both companies have been asked by several press people, only to answer vaguely or simply say 'Ask Tecmo/Nintendo'. It just seems like all the fuss is causing poor PR for both companies rather than something positive. :/
(Unless the point is to continue to be vague to keep people talking about it until an actual decision can be made...if that sort of logic is being thrown into play.)

This whole mess is nintendo's fault. they shouldnt have gotten involved with the game if they werent going to fully commit to giving the game the distribution it deserves.
There are more wii owners in the US alone compared to Japan. The money to be made is over here.
it would be awful for this game to be shut away from the fans because of the legalities.

I've sent an email requesting explanation to both Nintendo and Tecmo, putting as carbon copy the major Videogames journals and sites (IGN, Gamasutra, GameEdge) and Beyond Camera Lens forum admin.
yeahh...it's true please TECMO...Me and people all around the world will be disappointed if you don't release the USA version of FATAL FRAME IV Mask Of The Lunar Eclipse. I beg you TECMO... I'm Joe Capri From Indonesia I'm Fans of Fatal Frame series.
I really think Tecmo should release FF IV for some other system than the Wii. The Wii would be the least of my systems to put it out on, if they dont then i will never get a chance to play it... being a rabid fan thats more than a bit disappointing...

I'm not digging the name change thing but whatever it takes. It's only a rumor after all. NOA is still up in the air but hopefully there is a bit of truth to the rumor.
I'm failing to understand why Tecmo hasn't been publishing their own games recently. Ninja Gaiden II was published by Microsoft, while Fatal Frame IV was published by Nintendo in Japan. Why wouldn't Tecmo have a clause in any publishing contract that allows them to publish their own IPs should the need arise due to failure from the other publisher.
And what is wrong with NoA? They get railed on for not catering to the "hardcore" gamers, yet sit on the very games that would appeal to them. Not to mention Fatal Frame is already a part of a series with an established fan base.
Remember, last year (when FFIV was announced) Tecmo Inc was dealing with some major issues.
There was the lawsuit, the financial issues, the president of Tecmo resigned. They were looking at merger possibilities (Ultimately going with Koei). I think at the time, they were just trying to find a way to get their games published without extra worries on not being able to financially release them.
However, begging Tecmo here.. please.. if you make a Fatal Frame V, remember your US & European fans who DESPERATELY wanted to play FFIV, and be cautious of making such deals in the future.
I am really saddened by all this, as this was a game I was extremely excited about, especially since Kikuchi-san has said he believes this is the best fatal frame game yet.

To be honest, as strongly as we would all like Tecmo to publish FF4 in North America, they can look at these forums and go, wow, there are twelve people on the internet who would like fatal frame 4 to be published in north america. I expect if these boards were absolutely crawling with activity and there was a huge uprising against their decision making we might at least have a chance of seeing something happen. As it is, though, its not likely. Eventually they will hear enough to at least consider doing something about not bringing it here, though...
