Without the NFL license, you should get around that by letting players draw or download their own logos and uniforms. The customization in Kickoff is lacking big time.
I remember back in the N64 days, there was a wrestling game my friends played and it didn't have every wrestler, but the character creation was so good that it didn't matter, you could easily make a believable Hulk Hogan or whoever. Tecmo Bowl could be like that. |

The customization is kinda weak. There should be more colors for uniforms, way more logos for helmets and they need to beef up the online play as well. How about adding in snow and rain online. How about losing points when you quit games. Maybe having online leagues would be sweet to. Having better control of super abilities definitely needs to be looked at. Having defensive super abilities should really be added. What about being able to draw up your on plays with the stylus? Now that would be cool.
Come on Tecmo, I know the next Tecmo Super Bowl won't come out for like 2 or 3 years so get started working on this stuff man. Or atleast provide some updates for the game or something. |

How about better default teams that would be the only selections available in online play? Then the teams could be ranked in order of strength to give a bonus or penalty for winning with weaker or stronger teams.

1) They really need to put in the players condition again- excellent, good, bad, etc. I thought that feature was a staple of the series and is really missed.
2) More complete stat tracking. 3) For online play, only set teams should be used (like pre set points), or they have to add the ability to change teams easier if you get matched up with someone who is at an 800+ point differential. 4) I agree with better logo/colors customization being needed. |

Custom logo creation is a must. Mario Kart DS did it. I'm sure Tecmo Bowl can.
More in-depth stat tracking. Better online. A larger palette of colors for customization. Different defensive formations (not choosing defensive plays), simply because only having a 3-4 makes it difficult to stay accurate when creating actual teams. For example, I created the 1982 Oklahoma Sooners using their roster from that season. They ran a 5-2 that year under Switzer, so their bench is starting up front on D. |

Stat tracking must be better, a running play is not a completion it is an attempt. That sorta stuff just annoys the heck out of me. Track tackles and field goal percentage too.

I recently got Tecmo Bowl Kickoff and am liking it to a certain extent. However the game feels rather sloppily developed. I hope that there is a sequel, if only to tighten things up.
Besides what's been mentioned above by others, they really need to: 1. Fix the simulated game results. It's beyond ridiculous to see half the games played in a week end up 17-7... With the same stats! There quite obviously needs to be more variety there. 2. Let the user control up to 32 teams during a season. 3. Add difficulty levels. If there is no Tecmo Bowl Kickoff 2 it will taste oh so bitter sweet! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kenny Easley, |

^ Unfortunately I don't play online.
Another suggestion for the developers if there is sequel: 1. Fix the cutscenes. There have been a few instances where I pass to the 2nd WR (2nd on the roster list) and it shows the 1st DE (1st on the roster list) catching it in the cutscene. I'm pretty sure the 2nd WR still gets credit, because if it's a TD the cutscene will properly show the WR and not the DE. I'm not sure if it's specific plays that trigger this, and it doesn't happen all the time, but it's always the 1st DE in place of the 2nd WR. In spite of this game's shortfalls it does a lot of things really well. I actually think it plays better than the classic Tecmo Super Bowl, and it's very close to being a fantastic game. Make a sequel Tecmo! |

^ Actually the cutscene glitch involves other players too. I created LT for the G-Men and lo and behold it showed him catching a pass in a few cutscenes.
Another suggestion for a second Tecmo Bowl Kickoff: - Put a color border around the icon of who you're going to pass to, so that it is easier to see. As is it's not that easy to distinguish from the other receiver's icons. |

Regarding difficulty levels... The current one could be the easiest setting, and for the more difficult ones these improvements would have to be made: 1. The CPU QBs are terrible at throwing to the right receiver. Probably about 75% of the time they leave 2 or 3 guys wide open down the field. 2. The CPU LBs need to do something besides stand there at the line of scrimmage on pass plays they don't call correctly. They should either: a) Go after the QB, or b) cover someone. As is passing is way too easy, and you never get sacked unless the CPU calls the play correctly. And though it's been mentioned above by others, I'll say it again, the stat tracking needs a serious upgrade. The more I play this game the more that aspect stands out as just being very poor. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a sequel. |

Oh, I almost forgot.....Tecmo also needs to hook up the football fields man!!!!!! Add the helmets to the endzones with the team initials and add something to the middle of the field, a team logo, name, something....I also agree with different defensive formations like 4-3, 5-2 or even 8 men goal line fronts.
There definitely should be defensive super abilites to. Mix in some more/different cut scenes. I really think that Tecmo, could add most of this stuff via download especially with this new Nintendo DSI. |

The wide receiver cut scene bug seems to be replacing the second receiver with the last defensive player used.
I love that this version is essentially the first versions with enough tweeks to make the game interesting and somewhat different while retaining the corny-kind of playability. If another release of this title was made with more improvements to the original, I wouldn't be happier. My wants, somewhere between what I wanted to see on the NES and what I see now: 1. More comprehensive stat tracking. It should also be noted that the funcionality still seems to exist for individual player stats on their own pull-up screen. 2. Improved AI. It's marginally better than before, but as mentioned earlier, the quarterback doesn't hit the open receiver. The computer defense is still mostly stumped by simply zig-zagging up field, usually is too concerned with stepping into a lane to cover an open receiver, and generally doesn't react to the ball. 3. The special abilities are fun but not entirely functional. "Hot Potato," for instance, automatically throws to the selected receiver, and isn't necessary for any experienced player. They add something to simple games, like the old Baseball Simulator 1.000, only because the game is already built around them. 4. "Dorm Room" leagues; creating customizable leagues or tournaments based on size, division and conference would add something to online play. It'd also add a dimension to the customizable process, where different seasons and leagues can be represented. 5. I'm all for having more than 32 available teams. Again, if it was possible to add a new league and duplicate the teams, making them copies open to shifting between affiliations, it could work. 6. Simulated games, as previously noted, produce predictable results. No blow-outs, no dominance. 7. The name indicator on the top screen falls behind. It's almost impossible in many circumstances to know exactly who just made an interception. 8. I love the online play idea (though don't do it myself), but would still want to see something like a continuing season play. Downloadable TSB ROMs have become pretty popular just adding a Dynasty/Franchise element. 9. Hand-drawn logos would be perfect. 10. More options as to colors would be preferable. 11. Shifting base formations, both offensive and defensive, would be an improvement. How could forget the Houston Oilers being forced into a tight end? 12. The defense is at a handicap. Defensive plays were a nice addition at one point. If not fully, but possibly the ability to change coverages or formations while still guessing an offensive play could add something to the game. I think I'm done for now. |

My two cents:
1. The computer needs to be much more competitive. I won a game today 147-7 between two teams with 8000 points. Scoring 100+ is no problem. 2. Keep the game simple...I am not interested in "Madden" type complexity. 3. Add the player conditioning element that was there in Tecmo Super Bowl. It made going undefeated difficult. 4. No Tecmo Jo, but some players should have more ability points than others. Some should have strength and speed. Maybe a player might get more points for impressive stats. 5. Better uniform options. Logo's could be downloaded after winning the Tecmo Bowl. Be able to alternate both the Jersey colors and the pants for home and road. 6. Improve the online play. I really have enjoyed learning to play others online. Make it crisper and deduct points for quitting. 7. Allow play against friend's customized teams. |

I meant to say the wide receiver bug occasionally pulls-up the last defensive lineman.
Lack of concern for player condition is something I'm still adjusting to. I'm not sure how I feel about it's absence, and I'm not sure how it would fit into their model moving forward. I do miss that element, though. The customization matches the rest of the game; their are limitations but up to those limitations it's fast and loose, so where the conditions would fit in isn't as easy as when the rosters were fixed. |
