The ones who played DOA3 and DOA4 probably noticed that Ryu's gameplay was completly different in these 2 games...(unlike some others characters like Hitomi...)

Well, what gameplay would you like for Ryu Hayabusa in DOA5 ?

I prefer DOA3 gameplay of Ryu (less based on "teleportation" and more traditionaly based on combos)
I think his gameplay was much better in DOA3...

I even suggest a "double gameplay" (something like in some old Neo Geo games: in Samurai Shodown it was possible to chose your "fight mode" -basically 2 alternatives, the player had to chose before begining the match which style he prefered...)

it's best to rename the topic to DOA character Gameplay, rather only for Ryu. Because who knows at some point you or someone else may make the same topic but for other characters another day.


I choose DOA3 Ryu's style. It's good to have 80+moves for a character. But not everyone will perform certain types of moves. This is why DOA4 is broken, you don't even perform different styles of moves but you mix them up just to form a long combo strings.
Teleporting moves just makes Ryu over powered.

And as the Double Gameplay feature thing, that's for 2D Games. This is a 3D game. More also, you want this feature yet you don't even have an idea on how it would work for DOA:/
This is why I said its best to go in-detailed with ideas.

Moreover Ryu's style was probably the most re invented gameplay (among all characters) if you compare DOA3 and DOA4...
Double gameplay was also used in some recent 3D fight games (Samurai Shodown Arcade, Samurai Shodown -the recent Xbox version which i cant remeber the complete title...- and even Soulcalibur -not sure but i think so...-)
and it works good...

I forgot:
Calling it "DOA5 RYU which gameplay?" may also call in an easier way tecmo programmers attention...(Ryu remains an important character in Tecmo franchises...certainly more than Bayman or Bass...)

I found everyone's move to be revamped and good. I was stunted with Zack's revamp the most.

No Soul Calibur doesn't use that method.

That method is only or should I say mostly used in 2D games, and Samurai Shodown inherited that method in the Xbox version because through out the franchises, the game had the selective fighting style.

And Ryu is not the only important character to Team NINJA.

hum...Ryu is the main character of 1 series (NG series) and also appears in the DOA series...
Doa xtrem does features some Doa girls but there is no focus on 1 special character (for all girls are equally playable)

yes Ryu is the main character of Ninja Gaiden, but Team NINJA developed DOA first, I have no idea why Ryu starred in DOA in the first place.

I do think it's because Ninja Gaiden is Tecmo's IP, so Team NINJA wanted to put him to a use and expand him.

DOA X is a spin off for fan service.

Hence their name Team NINJA, they just like ninja stuff and live up to their name. Unlike Ninja Theory who doesn't (developers of Heavily Sword).

If Team Ninja was favouring ninja characters the most, they would have been doing it before DOA4 i think...(this includes DOA3...)
In my mind many characters who are not Ninjas (such as Hitomi, my favorite female character) aren't underpowered. Only Ryu got overpowered in DOA4 because of the introduction of some of his Ninja Gaiden 2 special moves...
Playing DOA 3 i could beat -with Hitomi- my cousin who was using Ryu.
My cousin is an exceptional player (ranked first world wide in Wipe Out HD for a while, i even saw him finish Resident Evil Code Veronica -the hardest one in the series- in 1 hour 28 minutes with only 3 saves and using only the knife -and handgun for some bosses-...) DOA3 was probably the only game i could beat him (no matter if he was using Ryu and if i was using another character) because characters were quite balanced and because i also spent training for months on that game !! ^^
Playing DOA4 i could never beat my cousin if he was using Ryu (or only rarely...) and if i was using someone else than Ryu...
I think DOA4 mainly overpowered Ryu..not all ninjas...but this is just my opinion...

yes it is your opinion, because if you play online. You'd know how frustrating it is to try and beat a Kasumi fighter.

All the ninjas are overpowered in DOA4, there's absolutely no argument in that.

Ryu is my best fighter in DOA4. I just don't wanna think about DOA4 online because it just p*sses me off the way people played.

And as for your cousin, some people are only good at certain genres. Like fighters fans are good at fighting games but suck at Hack n Slash or FPS's.

And no Wip3out HD is not one of the hardest games ever made. It has one of the hardest trophies.
Ranking in the top leaderboard does not link with the trophies.
I'm at lvl 20 and I recently go the game end of Sep 2009. Currently earning half the trophies.

And yes someone good at a certain genre CAN be bad at other genres. Just because you finished Ninja Gaiden 2 in master ninja which is one of the hardest games ever made, doesn't mean you can finish Halo in Legendary mode or Professional in Hitman.

I'm good at Hack n Slash games, FPS (RPG doesn't count because it's based on Experience), Racing, Action Adventure, Platforming and Puzzle.
But I suck at stealth games, Strategy games.
