Today's article topical thread is called Fighting games over the top and boosted for no reason? Now what do I mean by fighters games are over the top for no particular reason? Well we need to think back the purpose of fighting games and who they are aimed at? Purpose of fighting games is to fight one another which is enough said. Who are they aimed at? are fighting games aimed at hardcore gamers alone or just variety of gamers? Some people will argue it's for hardcore gamers since other individual gamers moans when they lose or can't stand the way others play the game. Others argue that fighting games are aimed at all gamers for the way they are created. Now I'll start to break down the points why they are over the top and useless. Personally I can't decided if fighting games are made for hardcore gamers alone or not. But you can tell by the sort of fighting games aimed at hardcore players *cough cough Capcom games. Ok enough bullcrap reading, why are they over the top for goodness sake? *Character Roosters: I still don't get the purpose of fighting games containing over 10 characters! Hardcore gamers AKA Play to Win will only master 1 or 2 characters out of 10 or over 20+ characters. Developers knew this from start that gamers who'd like to get deep into their fighting games will be Play to Win who only go to training mode to master 1 or 2 characters. Others will say having more than 10 characters allows different Play to Win to master the rest of the roosters, some may even master crappy characters such as Dan from Street Fighter and completely destroy a Zangief player. Well it's true that having more characters will allow players to fight with other characters online rather than having limited and same identical characters always facing off. But having more characters, what does this mean for other gamers? Average and casual gamers? Definitely Average gamers will pick any characters to successfully win. This is why they choose the random button half the time. Casuals won't care what character they pick so as long as they can win with that particular character or group of characters. So what is my aim? I'm trying to say that Fighting games are still aimed at Hardcore gamers alone, if Hardcore gamers will only master 1 or 2 characters why bother having over 20+ characters in the game? Mortal Combat Armageddon completely boost up to 60 characters. Seriously what is the point? and the fact is you can create your own character:/ Some of you may think that it's best to have new characters in a new sequel than have limited original characters stay. Why don't we say when a sequel is release, those original characters will be gone and new character will replace all characters! Like Street Fighter 2 will contain the classic 8 characters and when Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo gets release, we'll not have classical characters such as Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Zangief, Dhaslim, Blanka, E-Honda and Guile anymore. Instead we'll get the new additional characters as replacement, Cammy, T-Hawk etc. I don't know why MK:A boost 60 characters, as if you'll use all characters when fighting with other players. Is having more than 20 characters in a fighting game necessary? *Movelist: Ok this part is strictly important and it's mostly aimed at DOA series especially. You have a single character that boost up to 80 movesets! Once again Hardcore players will master a character and learn all it's weak, strong and cheap attacks and moves. But does that mean that he/she will master up to 50 moves? NO! No body can master up to 30 character's movelist. During any match, a player will never perform up to 30 movesets for a single character and this is a fact. Unless someone can prove me wrong and show me a player that can use 30+movesets in a 2/3 round match. Average gamers who are familiar with fighting games and their combination moves will try and perform moves that isn't scripted to their head. Casual gamers will button bash thus this will allow the character to pull of different forms of moves even a Hardcore gamer hasn't tried. Now DOA series, their characters have up to 80 to 100 movesets, this is absolutely not necessary. Sure is amazing that a character can contain so much movesets and then again a waste of time because players will never perform all of the movesets. This is why Team NINJA invented the exercise mode so players can get to try and use all of the characters movelist. Team NINJA should save their time in improving and balancing the game rather than giving all individual characters 80+ movesets that no one in the world will use. Do fighting games characters still require move than 50 movesets for them to function?

its a balance of content. lots of character - less moves less character - more moves DOA has a small but well developed roster of characters so they have lots of moves. Tekken has loads of characters but they have rubbish moves, like kuma. The cool summer breeze passes me by.
