As much as I don't care about sales figures especially for consoles.
This is quite important since it relates to the future of the game.

Examiner

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 sold 370,000k copies worldwide in just 1 month!

So in the end Ninja Gaiden franchise has sold over 4million copies.

Remember the figures:
*Ninja Gaiden/Black both sold 1.5million copies (updated till 2007)
*Ninja Gaiden Sigma sold 500,000 copies (updated April 2008)
*Ninja Gaiden 2 sold 1million copies (updated 2 months (August) after release which was in June)
*Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 sold 370,000 copies (updated November)

You may be thinking that NGS2 is doing bad, but it's actually impressive!
NGS2 actually sold nearly 400,000k in 1 month.
If it wasn't released next to Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Froza 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Tekken 6 etc. Sales would definitely would have been better. But it would be best if the game was released early around August. Team NINJA were ahead of schedule, they used the last month to add some stuff and tweaking such as extra costumes etc.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma would have even sold up to 700,000k it was because not many people had PS3 at that time.

Don't forget that game ports never tend to sell so well.

Now that we are in November, sale for NGS2 will continue so slow because people will be looking forward to christmas and saving their money for 2010 games.

We should now expect NGS2 Downloadable content around November or December.

Oh yea, here's a question:

Do you think it was worth it that Team NINJA added the purple mist/haze (reduced blood) to deflect the game's age rating so it can be accessible to gamers not aged 18 in order to boost sales?
Has this technique been achieve by the latest sales figures?
Did Tecmo's internet advert paid off and got this game to have a sale boost under a month?

Congratulations, Ninja Gaiden will now be multiplatform forever. I sure do hope that Team NINJA and Tecmo are proud. Now we can expect DOA5 on PS3!

You're really trying to keep this forum up, that's very nice of you. I'll try to help.

Personally, I like the mist, it gives the game a different feel. and like I said many times before, I think there was too much blood in NG 2 for the 360.

but I don't think it boosted the sales by much (except in Japan). just by toning down blood would not make the youngsters buy or not buy it, it's still full of blood and violence.
And most people who bought NGS2 were the ones who have played previous NG games, making them already mature enough to get the game regardless of contents.

I'm sure the internet vids should have helped the sales (especially from ninjagaiden.jp ) those vids were awesome.

And one more thing that should have increased the sales was online co-op. people who played co-op most likely tried to get their friends to get the game so that they can play together. (none of my friends wanted to buy the game though)

all valid points

about toning down the blood and adding the purple mist. I do hope it increased Japan's sales. Because Itagaki said NG2 only sold 60,000k in Japan which isn't good. But I also think with so much sacrificed made to this game just to tone down the age rating where for nothing. I mean this game is a age 17+ rating. What's so good about that? just someone who is 1 year younger than 18. If the game was a 15 or 16 rating would have made a better difference.

If Team NINJA does keep up this bullsh* by censoring the beheading for Japan edition, there could be a problem. And I urge my fellow Asian gamers to boycott the next Ninja Gaiden game.

I do think the toning down blood didn't help boost sales neither, it was the pack of contents that did.

As for the Tecmo internet advert, if NGS2 sold higher in Japan than NG2, then it differently did paid off!

And most people who bought NGS2 were the ones who have played previous NG games, making them already mature enough to get the game regardless of contents. Ones who played NG2 already just helped with the sale. I'm sure people who found Ninja Gaiden Sigma hard, had high hopes that they will find this version easier. Second this has online just like you said. Third Ayane alone made DOA fans buy this game.

And why didn't none of your friends didn't buy this game?
*Because of so much sacrifices made to the game?
*they don't own a PS3/Beast?
*They've already played NG2 and NG2 is better?
*Saving up for better games such as Uncharted 2

Trust me, there are lots of Ninja Gaiden fanboys and itagaki lovers, they are not hard to spot.
If you go to xbox360achievements.com, you have people who constantly spew bull about this game without playing it.

no, my friends didn't buy NGS2 because:

1. They're dumb and don't thing NGS2 is good enough
2. They all prefer FPS's
3. They can't beat NGS1 so they just gave up
4. They already spent their money to pre-order different games
5. They stopped spending time on video games.

the only game I can play with them is GTA4

I don't know. I really think, this game could have definitely been better off being delayed or maybe released august 29th.

While I love this game, it released at a terrible time with big hitters.

And I don't see the sales getting any higher than what it already gotten. Whether we disagree or not, the lack of blood and gore really did play a role in the lack of sales in some regions. The lack of beheading in the japanese one, even though I could have sworn I saw it in the demo, probably helped the sales rise, if any, in japan with lowering the ratings.

But, tbh, I think Ninja Gaiden has come to an age where not many care for it anymore like they did with NG1. It seems as if it's hit it's peak in appeal and other action games are just coming out with much better receptions and different mechanics that really sets the bar for future action games. And judging from reviews, it seems NG is still trying to become better with the same old mechanics. Hell, I remember one review had given it a 58 and said the gameplay is starting to feel dated while saying Batman: Arkhams Asylum has a brilliant combo system and having small additions to the game "isn't enough to offset the handful of surprising oversights and omissions".

While I personally hate this review partially for comparing gameplay from two entirely different styles of action games, it's not hard to think that maybe, NG is getting old. Maybe that's why Itagaki stated that NG2 was the last. He knew it's aging and he wanted to start making new games.

Idk, but I do think the sales as of now isn't really glowing, but maybe it's cause of the date it released on. I'll wait for another month or 2 before I give my full feelings on the sales. It's too early and with other games overshadowing it, it not a fair discussion imo.

UPDATED SALES FIGURES FOR SIGMA 2

source http://www.examiner.com/examin...st-of-the-North-Star

(I'm not even starting to trust this stupid site now)

So far the game has sold 480,000, I'm not sure what month figure this is, but I have seen this figure ages ago (which was a sales figure sheet released by TK). Although figure has been used for comparison to Hokuto Musou.

For Hokuto Musou the game already sold 570,000 within 2 months of it's release.

Again, Sigma 2 sales is close to 500,000 same as Sigma 1 sales, considering the game a port as well.

People who found Sigma 1 hard, are skeptical about Sigma 2 being hard too. Don't forget Sigma 1's launch as PS3 lacks install base, so people would like to pick up Sigma 1 before playing Sigma 2.

Wow, utter disgrace. NGS1 actually did much better than NGS2.

Well, no more NG games from here on out. This game did not sell any more than the original.

how is it a disgrace!?

It took Sigma 1 about 7 months to get to 500k
While it took Sigma 2 just 2 months to get to 300k considering it a port.

Port games don't tend to sell well, and the worst part about ports is that after 2 months, their prices drop down so low!

Sigma 2 cost £19 right now in UK, you can even get it £15 brand new else where. TKE will not even be making that much, but because this is a port, it is expected.

Unless you can prove me wrong by giving evidence that port games do sell well and can reach 1 million mark. I don't mean port games like Overseas, I'm talking about ports like a remake- like Tales of Vesperia for Xbox 360 and a port for PS3. Or like Castle Crashers on Xbox Live and a port for PSN.

If I actually knew where to look to find sale figures for ports I would probably try to find something against your point.

If I do find one i'll either make another post if someone responds or edit this post.
